Well I have finally got back in the saddle so to speak after a good vacation break. I had a look at the auction site and noticed about a week ago the site seem to be inactive: nothing for sale. I have used this as both a buyer and seller and found it was very effective so not wanting the auction site to fall by the way side I will be putting putting numerous items for sale over the next week so check it out. To Tim and The Zootman...I sense salivation occurring among OLF mambers with news of these offerings! I can also imagine lots of guys doing special projects around the house this weekend to get into good graces with the controller of the purse strings. Remember guys...Valentine's Day is on Wednesday! A nice piece of jewelry could go a long way in justifying your WAS next week!

Just detected the Luthierauctions after reading Tim?s thread - that?s a real smart place and should not be forgotten, I agree! A few participiants have a store at luthierauctions - can any kind soul one help me and explain how to register for such a thing? I found nothing about this on the FAQ and maybe my eyes don?t serve me well (it?s 0:30 am over here), but I can?t find anything regarding the store elsewhere on this forum ...? Hello Lillian, The tree is pittosporum bicolour. If you PM your postal address I can send you a sample. There is a statement and image at http://www.indeco.net.au/cheesewood.htm. Better qualitychessewood is very white and clean with a fine defined grain. regards Tim |

Well Tim, you can throw a small sample in with the Jarrah fretboards. The sample will be sweet to actually handle, but what can you tell me about its properties as far as building guitars? What you liken it to? Thanks. |

I have used "Cheesewood" as a binding on both classical and flamencos and it is an awesome wood. It is white like ivory and more consistent and easier to work with than Boxwood. It is the ultimate "blanca" wood  .

Hi Lillian, As Shawn has said it is whte like ivory. Sourcing the white cheesewood is more of a challenge. I have used it as purfling material in conjunction with highly figured blackwood and it worked well. As Shawn has stated and as I suspect it will be an excellent alternative. I have found that it bend well but splinter can occur if the material is not prepared/heated/steamed properly. regards Tim |

I source mine from Tasmania .
Actually you are right, it is scarce but a great wood when you can get it..often overlooked which I suppose is why it is not harvested more. I have also used it as binding for sides and backs of figured Silver Wattle which is lighter and I didnt want a big contrast. |
